The Diversity of Traveling to Mexico

For the majority of travelers, Mexico is synonymous with picture-perfect beaches and holidays under the sun. But this fascinating country offers much more than that: lush rainforests, some of the world’s most impressive archaeological sites, and vibrant cities are some of the things you can expect to see during a holiday in this country. When it comes to the variety of landscapes, cultures, and opportunities for entertainment, this is one of the most diverse countries in the Americas, and is the perfect holiday destination whether you are an adventure seeker, a history lover, or just looking for some well-deserved relaxing time at an idyllic beach. Not convinced? Keep reading and you will soon change your mind.

Cancun

Cancun is one of the gateways to Mexico and one of the top holiday destinations for US travelers. The city enjoys a fantastic location on the Caribbean and is known for its exciting nightlife. Cancun will not disappoint you if your idea of a perfect holiday involves spending your days relaxing on the beach and your nights exploring clubs, bars and restaurants.

You’ll have more than 13 miles of postcard-like beaches to choose from during a holiday in Cancun. The best beaches include Delfines, Gaviota Azul, Ballenas, and Marlin. Because it’s unlikely that you’ll get tired of tropical beaches, you can follow up with a day trip to Isla Mujeres, a Caribbean island dotted with white sand beaches, and where golf carts are the preferred method of transportation. Speaking about golf, you can also find several championship golf courses in Cancun. But perhaps you are more into pampering yourself, in which case you will love Cancun’s luxurious spas, or you may want to indulge in some serious retail therapy at the city’s exclusive shopping malls.

Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya covers 80 miles of beautiful coastline, stretching between Cancun and the Belizean border. This is the closest thing to a tropical paradise and the ideal holiday destination for adventure seekers and lovers of the outdoors. Tulum is known for the impressive location of its ancient Mayan ruins, but the town is also the perfect base to explore the cenotes, sinkholes filled with crystalline water and teeming with marine life. For something different, head to Xcaret, a huge theme park were you can swim with dolphins, explore Mayan villages, and go river rafting. Further south, Punta Allen is an off-the-beaten-path destination where you can go on fishing trips, explore the mangroves, and go on jungle trips and canopy tours. Other interesting things to do in Riviera Maya include jet-skiing, diving, sailing, and less common activities like snorkelling in the region’s underwater rivers.

Chichen Itza

If you enjoy learning about other cultures or are a history buff, a visit to Chichen Itza should be a must on your travel itinerary. This UNESCO World Heritage Site that attracts over 1 million visitors every year, and is conveniently located only 2.5 hours away from Cancun. Chichen Itza was one of the largest and most influential cities of the Mayan civilization, and it is impossible not to be impressed by the magnificence of its temples and pyramids. Don’t miss the museum and the souvenir shop selling authentic Mayan handicrafts.

Tip: you can easily combine a trip to Chichen Itza with a visit to Valladolid, a pretty colonial town known for its great restaurants and colorful markets.

Yeah, those places are wonderful, but Mexico is much more than that. The post just includes three places located in the same area, Peninsula de Yucatan, and don´t represent the real diversity of Mexico. Many foreigners have a misconception about Mexico, they tend to think Cancun epitomizes Mexico and that’s not true.
I recommend everybody to look for more places in Mexico to travel to, you’ll be surprised of how beautiful this country is 🙂

  2. Mexico is a great place to spend your vacation near the beautiful beaches and natural attractions. I love the Cancun, Cancun has many beaches full of visitor’s. You can take the true experience of beach life in Cancun. Love to visit there again.

Yes. I believe that Mexico Is really awesome, I saw there what I never seen in my life in other places, but the only problem that I faced is no French speakers then, and even English is not well spoken. at least on Cancun where I was
